CASPER, Wyo. (Wyoming News Now) - Last week, the Prep Athletes of the Week came from the offensive side of the football, and this week, it’s the defense’s turn. Selections come from 4A and 3A football.

Natrona County had the second-ranked team defense at 4A this season, and three Mustangs received all-state honors.

Former Prep Athlete of the Week Kaeden Wilcox headlined the group at defensive back. It was his second all-state selection, and it was unanimous this season. He was also the 4A Defensive Player of the Year.

Linebacker Jake Sides and Brendyn Nelson, a defensive lineman, joined Wilcox on the defensive side of the ball from the Mustangs.

Two Cheyenne East Thunderbirds cracked the list. Cade Pugh, a defensive back, and linebacker Ethan Brinkman found their names.

Kelly Walsh defensive back Erich Hulshizer was the lone defensive representative from the Trojans, and Central linebacker Eli Castillo made the all-state squad at at-large defense.

Laramie’s Talon Luckie was a unanimous all-state selection at punter.

From 3A, Douglas Bearcats Karson Ewing, a linebacker, and Kael Matthews, a defensive lineman, are all-state defenders. Lander defensive lineman Ernesto Cabriales was among that group, too.

Congratulations to all of these young men on remarkable seasons and for being a part of this week’s group of Wyoming News Now Prep Athletes of the Week.
