CHEYENNE, Wyo. (Wyoming News Now) - Wyoming Equality is making sure the LGBTQ+ community has a place to belong during this holiday season.

“The holidays can be a rough time for LGBTQ, particularly the very young and the very old. Wyoming Equality is trying to offer some state-wide resources for folks who maybe dont have a safe and loving place to be,” said Sara Burlingame, Executive Director for Wyoming Equality.

Their seasonal charity fundraising is helping to support librarians in Gillette, give LGBTQ+ youth access to books for and from their community.

Wyoming Equality will be holding a Gay and Straight Alliance (GSA) Crafts Day at their downtown office on Saturday.

These get-togethers have grown from 6 events to over 25 across the state. The event gives teens and folks a safe place to go, where they can belong and connect with their peers.

Experts say when you acknowledge a person’s gender identity, it drives down the rates of suicide in the community.

“The greatest gift that you can give your kids, that you can give your friends and community, is to love and accept them,” said Burlingame.

Wyoming Equality wants to make sure everyone has a safe place to belong during the holiday season.
