CASPER, Wyo. (Wyoming News Now) - The Wyoming Rescue Mission Discipleship Recovery Program spent the evening of Nov. 23 offering turkey meals to the Casper community.

“Our disciples are the ones that are gonna be handing out the food boxes so they’re gonna go door to door and just check in and see if somebody needs a Thanksgiving meal,” said Programs Director Dave Matthews.

Around 25 people spent the evening knocking on doors and offering meals to those who may need it. Two vans transported people, while two trucks carried the turkeys and side dishes.

A component of the recovery process offered by the Rescue Mission focuses on acts of service, passing out Thanksgiving boxes is one way participants are encouraged to give back to their community.

“Them going back into the old turf the old neighborhoods where they maybe have been an addict or using and to be able to give back is such a blessing to see,” said Matthews.

The two groups split from each other then stopped in neighborhoods offering residents in the area turkeys

The Rescue Mission will be serving Thanksgiving dinners Wednesday and Thursday afternoon for anyone who wants to join in a meal.
