CHEYENNE, Wyo. (Wyoming News Now) - The 31st annual Cheyenne Christmas Parade kicks off on Saturday, November the 27th, at 5:30 pm.

There will be several pre-Parade events, like a wreath hanging ceremony and the Christmas lights’ lighting starting at 4:30 pm. Santa will also be at the Depot Plaza for the little ones.

And after a two-year-long pandemic, there’s nothing like kicking off the season and the holiday spirit than with a parade.

The Parade will start with a Toys for Tots float collecting toys for the organization.

”Christmas is here in Cheyenne and the spirit ... Goes throughout all of Cheyenne. We want people to come here and just feel like the holiday spirit is alive and thriving,” said Esther Gonsalez, Business Development &Business Development & Relationship Specialist, The Greater Cheyenne Chamber of Commerce.

Shop Small Saturdays has specials in local businesses running throughout the day.

”I love going and visiting all the little shops and meeting the people who are running them. You always find the best gifts that way, in my opinion and its a great way to support our community,” said Elizabeth Bennett, Marketing and Communications Coordinator, The Greater Cheyenne Chamber of Commerce.

Parade-goers should bundle up for the event and bring chairs and blankets to enjoy the festivities.

One hundred twenty-five floats are expected, and a strong security and police presence will ensure all parade-goers stay safe.

”We have a little more police presence then we had in the past. The ways we’re blocking off streets and have some changes. So we have been sensitive to the fact that, even before what happened in wisconsin last week, that we just live in a world where we need a little more security , so we’re doing everything we can to keep folks safe,” said Dale Steenbergen, President & CEO, The Greater Cheyenne Chamber of Commerce.

The Parade required 200 people to organize and they started planning the event during the summer.

”It is a pretty remarkable event for a town this size, and if you haven’t been to the Parade, come. It’s really a neat thing at night and kids love it and adults love it too. It’s kind of our kick off for the holiday season,” said Steenbergen.

The parade route will have Capitol Ave, Lincoln Way, Carey and Pioneer, closed off starting at 3 pm.

The Parade is scheduled to finish by 7 pm, and we’ll be streaming parade coverage starting at 6.
