CASPER, Wyo. (Wyoming News Now) - Full flights across the country are beginning to take off with Thanksgiving this week, and that’s no different here in Wyoming. The holiday season is the busiest time of year for Casper Natrona County International Airport.

“It busier certainly this year than it was in 2020. We haven’t quite seen the same level of travel for the holidays that we saw in 2019,” said Glenn Januska, the Airport Director.

Business travelers have not returned in the same capacity they were coming in before pandemic. Officials say they believe this is why numbers are still lower than 2019. As more people go to visit loved ones, they see leisure travelers filling the airport.

“A lot of what we’re seeing right now is truly based upon people who are traveling for leisure and so from that standpoint compared to a couple weeks ago, it is certainly busier,” said Januska.

If you are traveling with gifts for family this time of year, staff says think again before wrapping it. TSA may have to undo all your hard work.

“If it’s possible to wrap presents that anybody’s bringing when they get to their destination, that may save having to rewrap the package,” said Januska.

As flights continue to be full, longer lines and waits are expected. It’s important to plan ahead.

“It’s going to take longer to go through and check in and go through screening so if people have the expectation that it’s going to be a longer process and thy all themselves enough time that’s going to reduce the stress,” said Januska.

Officials say that whether you check in online or wait until you get to the airport, be sure to arrive early.
