Wyoming Rising hosts online vigil for health care expansion
CASPER, Wyo. (Wyoming News Now) - Wyoming Rising hosted an online vigil for those impacted by lack of access to health care.
The group is a volunteer-based organization that advocates for a variety of social causes including access to affordable health care. Most of the members are based in Park County.
On Nov 18. they hosted an online meeting to create a discussion space for advocates, medical professionals, and Wyoming residents.
Stories were shared about how lack of health care access has affected individuals and communities. The group also made plans to continue advocating for Medicaid expansion in the state.
“The expansion of Medicaid has come up in every legislative session for I believe the last ten years, and it’s been turned away each time. The reasons given for the most part have been ‘we can’t afford it’ or ‘we don’t trust the federal government to honor their commitment to pay 90%’ those arguments have been literally removed. They’ve been refuted by neighboring states, most of them are Republican dominated states, so it’s not a question of politics. It’s a question of common sense and facts and figures, and those states have benefitted from adopting Medicaid expansion,” said leadership team member Ronn Smith.
