Central athletes sign letters of intent, Brownell chooses New Mexico State
CHEYENNE, Wyo. (Wyoming News Now) - Four Cheyenne Central student-athletes signed their college sports letters of intent on Thursday afternoon. Before the signing took place, two-time Wyoming News Now Prep Athlete of the Week and swimmer Kira Brownell announced where she will next take her academic and athletic journey.
Brownell’s choices were whittled down to Dixie State, New Mexico State, North Texas, and Wyoming. With her parents by her side, she announced that she will head to New Mexico State University.
Below are the names of all of Thursday’s signees, their future college/team, and a quote after they made their commitments official.
Kira Brownell, New Mexico State Swimming
“I loved the campus. I love the team. I loved the coach and the coach’s practice like I love how he did it and kind of like that. So yeah, I think New Mexico is just like where I’m supposed to be.”
Matt Pietsch, Augustana Swimming
“I think it’ll be a really good opportunity to improve myself and accomplish some of the goals that I’ve set out for myself in college and considering the fact that it’s a new team, I think that it’ll be a great opportunity to establish a new culture and tradition for the program.”
Taylor Gebhart, Lake Region State College Softball
“I get to go play. I get to go have fun with no pressure of having college coaches coming to watch me. I know where I’m going. I’m excited. I just get to play.”
Caitlin Grenfell, Casper College Soccer
“I love my family and I’m a big family person so being close to them is super nice. Their health sciences programs are really phenomenal and having that option in Wyoming is pretty great.”
