CHEYENNE, Wyo. (Wyoming News Now) - A new nuclear plant is coming to Wyoming. Terra Power says the country must start meeting the energy needs and emission requirements of the market.

“We need to get started and demonstrate this technology and we need to do that in a place that we have confidence can help us build that first plant successfully. Wyoming, because of the high energy I.Q. here and the progressive leadership coming from the Governor and from Rocky Mountain Power, we think this is the place to do that,” said Chris Lavesque, CEO & President of Terra Power.

The new location will be in Kemmerer, Wyoming. Rocky Mountain Power and Pacificorp will transport the electricity manufactured.

This project will bring new jobs to the energy sector. Approximately 2000 workers will be needed for the construction. This facility will also be able to provide stable and sustainable energy 24/7.

Experts say it will be able to overlap any shortcomings of solar or wind power production.

“You’re going to need more and more electric generation facilities and you’re going to build as much renewable as you can because that’s what you’re incentivized to do. But you ve got to keep the lights on and reliability matters. So you need something thats dispatchable and that will load-follow like the Natrium (nuclear) plant will,” said Gary Hoogeveen, CEO & President of Rocky Mountain Power.

The Department of Energy gave nearly $2.5 billion in new funding for this project, matched by company funding.
