Central High’s JROTC Program assists with Veterans Food Drive
CHEYENNE, Wyo. (Wyoming News Now) - With the city of Cheyenne offering the chance to donate food and money for veterans, Central High School decided to get involved with the process.
“The momentum is rolling, we’ve already met our cash goal that I had set, so we’re gonna way far exceed that. The food gathered within the last four days is already at 200 pounds,” said Lieutenant Colonal Thomas Johnson, the Senior Army Instructor for Central’s JROTC.
While Veterans Rock VFW is hosting the food drive., the opportunity for Central’s JROTC program has helped with increasing the donations.
One such donation is two televisions, gifted as an item to raffle off.
This venture has helped students develop their leadership skills through real world application in this process.
“It’s been a little chaotic because has been moving very fast, but it’s also been very eye opening,” said senior Claire Holman, ”It really helps being in a leadership position because you’re more immersed into the project, you’re more aware of what’s going on, and how successful it’s actually going.”
The food drive will end on Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day on December 7.
