Salvation Army begins their seasonal campaign with Red Kettle Kickoff
CHEYENNE, Wyo. (Wyoming News Now) - Today marked the beginning of the Salvation Army’s campaign to raise money across the city. In order to celebrate the event, people joined together for the eighth annual Red Kettle Kickoff.
“Eight years ago, it started out as a ‘let’s see what we can do,’ and here we did it. It’s just grown,” says Donna Regan, a Board Member from the Salvation Army.
The event was held at the Little America Hotel and Resort, with sponsors and attendees filling one of the ballrooms.
Jenni Gordon, the First Lady of Wyoming, was in attendance and gave a speech at the event.
As a way of raising money, they held silent auctions and had donation buckets stationed at each table, accompanied by a small bell to encourage others to participate.
One member of the Salvation Army has seen his life transformed through their generosity, and uses that message to encourage others to make a change, one donation at a time.
Saul Smoak, Captain of the Cheyenne Salvation Army, said, “I actually came off the streets as somebody who was homeless atone time, and they rebirthed me back to life, showed me who Jesus Christ was, and got me right to where I am today. I give all the credit to God and the Salvation Army, but I met the Salvation Army 11 years ago and I’ve been with them ever since.”'
You can donate to the Salvation Army at one of their sites, or through their website.
