CHEYENNE, Wyo. (Wyoming News Now) - (Transcribed from the Interview)

Wyoming News Now would like to welcome U.S. Senator John Barrasso to our set. Welcome and Thank You for coming.

Great to be back with you, Valeria.

We’ll start with the taxation and the reckless tax and spending bill. Do you want to tell us a little bit about that?

Well, in Washington, President Biden and the Democrats are trying to pass massive new taxes to do massive new spending and this is at a time when inflation is running at a high price for 30 years. Energy prices are way up and the President is not sure why inflation is the way it is; I just saw him on television.

He drew a target on the back of American energy, killed the Keystone Pipeline, hit Wyoming and public land states with a moratorium on oil and gas exploration. Stopped exploration in Alaska, and last week he was in Scotland (COP26) apologizing for America and begging Vladamir Putin to produce more energy.

The fact that we’re using more oil today from Russia than we are from Alaska explains to the people of Wyoming why prices are up and why the economy is in a situation where people think the country is headed in the wrong direction.

How do we justify the needs of our energy sector and Americans and still meet some of our climate emissions initiatives and goals?

It’s to make energy as clean as we can, as fast as we can, and do it in a way that doesn’t raise costs for American consumers. I listen to the promises Biden has made in Scotland. At the same time, China didn’t show up at that conference, Russia didn’t show up and yet Biden’s asking them to produce more energy.

We do it in a much more environmentally friendly way in the United States than either they do in Russia or in China.

You take a look at what we’re doing here in Wyoming through the University of Wyoming, our school of energy resources. Efforts to capture carbon, use it for products, very successfully done right here in Wyoming.

We’re getting that same technology to others in the world here in Wyoming. We have this announcement of the Terra Power that new nuclear reactor which is going to mean more jobs to Wyoming, for our economy. Those are the ways we can do what the President has talked about without punishing our economy.

Is that the move for the future?

To re-skill and re-train some of these coal workers and oil and gas workers to some of these new developing energy sources. So that we can still maintain the economic base in Wyoming?

We need all the energy, the world demand for energy continues to go up. We need the oil, the gas, the coal. We need uranium the nuclear power. We need the wind, the solar, we need it all.

To say we’re going to shut down certain parts is just going to make everything else more expensive. That s why we’re seeing a 30 year high of inflation under the Biden policies, which are going to get worse if they pass this reckless tax and spending bill. To me, it’s a socialist agenda and a socialist budget bill.
