Casper Fire-EMS reminds residents of ladder safety
CASPER, Wyo. (Wyoming News Now) - If you’re driving around Casper in the evening, you may notice Christmas decorations lighting up houses and yards. Casper Fire-EMS is reminding residents to be safe when using ladders during this time of year.
“It may be a first time, it may even be a first time at a new home for lots of folks who are wanting to participate or decorate their homes for a festive holiday season. It’s something that is definitely seen and appreciated by a lot of residents here in Casper so while undertaking these things we just advise to do so safely,” said Dane Andersen, the Engineer and Public Information Officer for Casper Fire-EMS.
Andersen says it’s important to make sure you have a plan before stepping on a ladder. The ladder should be place on an area of your house where the Wyoming wind won’t be able to knock it over suddenly. While working on the ladder, it should be at a good climbing angle. If you can stick your arms straight out with your elbows locked while the top of your toes are at the bottom of the ladder, it is in a good position. Andersen recommends checking with a doctor to make sure you are in good health to be climbing and to always have on appropriate footwear.
“Taking the steps to prevent and also make sure that you’re safe prevents you from being hurt and prevents something that was intended to be nice part of your holiday season ending up and ruining your holiday season,” said Andersen.
Casper Fire-EMS suggest having a phone on you at all times in case of an emergency.
