Quarterfinals Preview: #1E Pine Bluffs
PINE BLUFFS, Wyo. (Wyoming News Now) - Pine Bluffs Football (7-0) held the 1A-9 Man’s #1 ranking for much of the season and is averaging 47.1 points per game this season.
Now, PB sets its sights on #4E Riverside (4-4), who the Hornets defeated 30-0 in Week 1.
“[Riverside is] more balanced then they were [in Week 1]. They were real run-heavy early in the year, it was just basic stuff,” said Pine Bluffs Football Head Coach Will Gray. “They’ve got some counters too, some counters in, they’re throwing some different route combos. Defensively, they’re tackling much better than they were Week 1 and they’re much improved so we’re gonna have our hands full.”
For the Hornets, a season this good did not come overnight.
“Everybody knows what they’re doing,” said Pine Bluffs Senior Ryan Fornstrom. “We all kind of get each other now. We know where we’re going. We all know what’s going on at the same time so it’s big for all of us to play together for two years straight now.”
Last year’s team started several sophomores and defense and tackling were huge problems. But now, things are clicking.
“I think we just really stay positive, our whole team,” said Diego Paniagua. “We’re like really close and that’s something that we’ve grown from last year. We weren’t really that close last year and I think we’re all brothers now.”
Pine Bluffs hopes to get to its first 1A-9 Man semifinals on Friday. Kickoff versus Riverside is set for 2 p.m. in Pine Bluffs.
