LARAMIE, Wyo. (Wyoming News Now) - The University of Wyoming football season is in full swing, but basketball at the Arena-Auditorium is right around the corner.

The Cowboys were picked to finish tied for eighth in the preseason Mountain West Conference media poll. It will be the second season with Head Coach Jeff Linder at the helm.

The Pokes finished 14-11 overall and 7-9 in the Mountain West Conference during Linder’s inaugural season in Laramie.

At Mountain West Conference Basketball Media Day, Linder said he’s excited heading into his second season in Laramie.

During his first year in Laramie, Linder’s squad dealt with injuries, COVID protocols and balanced one of the youngest rosters in college basketball. He’s enjoyed being able to practice as a team like he is accustomed to and running more five-on-five.

“With that, you’re gonna see, hopefully defensively, I think that’s where we gotta make a big step forward in order to compete at the top half of the league,” said Linder. “And it’s something that we’ve been working on and hopefully we’ll continue to get better as the season goes on, but as of right now, things are good, and it’s time to play somebody else and looking forward to playing somebody else here sooner than later.”

That first “somebody else” will be Detroit-Mercy at the Arena-Auditorium on Nov. 10.
