CHEYENNE, Wyo. (Wyoming News Now) - Today is the beginning of the changes in our weather patterns from the cold front. Starting off, we have a lot of clouds moving in from the western side of the state. Secondly, temperatures are much warmer than we typically see this time of year, even compared to yesterday. I mentioned this before but it is because of the position of the Jetstream bringing in warmer air from the south to fuel the storms before the cooler air from the north pushes it through the state. The biggest thing we are seeing from the Jetstream moving around is very strong wind gusts. Winds are already over 50 MPH in some regions and they are coming from the south or southwest. That is also why temperatures are above average, much of these winds are from the warmer deserts to the south. Tomorrow, it’ll change up after the front moves through as the winds will shift from south to north. As a result, we can still see strong gusts and breezy conditions throughout the state, but we will also see much cooler temperatures as those winds are coming from the cooler regions like the northwest and Canada.

Expect some highway and interstate impacts as a result of these winds throughout the rest of today and tomorrow. The next big thing from this cold front is a line of storms. Good news is that it looks to be heavy and widespread rain rather than severe storms. I personally believe there is a small risk so I will keep my eye on them throughout the day, but the Storm Prediction Center does not have any risks for the state tomorrow. Snow will be likely on the mountains but much of the cities shouldn’t see any as temperatures will remain above freezing throughout the day. Some flurries are possible going into the overnight hours, but the probability is low.

Tonight, temperatures will be on the warmer side as the increase in clouds will keep much of the heat from escaping overnight. Tomorrow, clouds and rain throughout much of the day with some gusty winds too. Be sure to give yourself some extra time when driving tomorrow as these conditions are likely to cause delays. Highs will not get much warmer than the lows as the front will keep us cool throughout much of the afternoon. Temperatures look to be staying on the cooler side for much of the week.
