CHEYENNE, Wyo. (Wyoming News Now) - The Laramie County Combined Communication Center wants everyone to know they have a new feature and another in the works that can help in an emergency.

“Pictures of small children, family members that may be autistic and have a habit of wandering off, we can have that photo available to us immediately and get it out to the responders before they’re even on the scene. So that they’re already looking for that person,” said Amber Young, Director of Laramie County Combined Communication Center.

Text 911 allows people to contact 911 via text message.

It’s the newest way to dial 911 for people who may be deaf, hard of hearing, or in a situation where someone may need help but can’t talk.

In domestic situations where there’s someone in the home that is being violent. They don’t want them to know the police are responding. We’ve all heard of the pizza calls where they order “the pizza” over 911. You can text that information to us. You’re not bringing any attention to yourself.” said Young.

A second feature...

Smart 911 allows families that may deal with mental illness or medical conditions to set up a safety profile.

The profile will send emergency responders photos, medical information, or property maps to inform them of the situation before arriving.

Smart 911is not being used yet but is on the 6th penny November ballot.

All information remains private and confidential and will only be pulled up in an emergency.
