City is encouraging residents to take advantage of free mulch and the Residential Compost Bin Program before it ends
CHEYENNE, Wyo. (Wyoming News Now) - Cheyenne residents can pick-up single grind or double grind mulch for free from the Compost Facility. The compost program with the residential containers ends the week before Thanksgiving, and will resume before April 1st.
On October 8th, the Compost Facility announced they would no longer be accepting pallets or lumber. The decision was made to ensure no damage would be caused to the composting machinery.
Aside from the ban, nearly all other forms of yard waste are acceptable.
“It’s a diversion tactic and we have several diversion tactics and composting is one of them. We banned yard waste from the landfill several years ago so instead we have the compost facility where you can take your grass, your leaves, your tree limbs, your bushes and even manure, we accept at the compost facility as well,” said Director of Public Works, Vicki Nemecek.
Nemecek said the change will ensure equipment will last longer, and that the quality of the compost turned into mulch will also be improved.
