CASPER, Wyo. (Wyoming News Now) - Brianna Hansel from Douglas received the Girl Scout Gold Award for a project she did with a local women’s shelter. Brianna explained that this award is similar to the Eagle Scout Award that Boy Scouts receive.

Brianna built a dog house for The Hope Center of Converse County. Her mom, Kim, said the Gold Award is an 80-hour project the Girl Scouts have to do on their own, but they can have some help. “My mom is one of our leaders and my dad helped me build the dog house,” Hansel said.

Brianna started the project in the fall of 2019 and worked on the project even during her mom’s breast cancer diagnosis and working through the struggles of virtual school because of the pandemic.

Brianna designed and built this dog house so domestic violence victims can bring their pets to the shelter. She is able to build the dog house with the help of a Red Rover Grant.

“My director who helped me with it sent me emails telling me how much it’s helped. I’m listening to people be happy and I really enjoy that,” Brianna said.

Brianna added she has a new interest in psychology from working on this project.
