CASPER, Wyo. (Wyoming News Now) - This morning residents across the state woke up to snow. The City of Casper Street and Traffic Department is working to keep roads clear and safe for drivers.

“Last week we started loading up our our trucks for whatever was going to happen. So we’ve actually been out since 4 a.m. this morning taking care of schools and the streets of course, and we’ll just keep working until the storm is over. Just like every other year. It’s just the first one now, and every body is gonna have to get readjusted to snow on the street,” said Streets and Traffic Manager Shad Rodgers.

Keeping roads clear and safe for winter driving is no small task. Casper employees are working on ten hour shifts to keep streets cleared. If snowfall is consistent and heavy those shifts will become twelve hours long. After plowing, salt is distributed onto the road to help prevent ice from forming.

As snow continues to fall and the wind picks up over night, icy road conditions may exist. The snow plows will continue to operate until the weather lets up.

“Be careful with what’s going on I mean the snow is wet and heavy so it’s gonna fling and so just be aware of the trucks that are out there on the road,” said Rodgers.
