Winter Is Coming
10 October 2021
CHEYENNE, Wyo. (Wyoming News Now) - Temperatures have cooled down to much more seasonable temperatures for this weekend. Highs got into the low to mid 60s in the big cities and we will begin cooling down more so during the overnight hours. The new thing on our map is winter storm watches and warnings. There is nothing to worry about today as the warnings are extended until Wednesday morning and evening. Just something to keep our eye on as there is expected to be more than half a foot of snow in the northern cities and more than a foot of snow in the mountains.
Our smoke is now out of the picture for the most part. The forecast now is only showing smoke near the border of the state, but just light haze. The wind will begin calming down going into the beginning of the work week, then pick up again by the middle of the week when the front moves through. Rain is calm too, for now. Much of the activity we can expect will take place starting tomorrow and last until Thursday. There is still uncertainty going into Wednesday and Thursday regarding the snowfall totals and temperatures for the eastern regions of the state. We will update you as soon as we get more information from the models and the National Weather Service. If Cheyenne ends up getting snow or not by the middle of the week, we can certainly expect below freezing temperatures overnight for a few days and gusty winds making it feel much colder than it actually will be.
Until then, temperatures will be dropping off tonight. Expect mostly 30s all around with a few 40s and 20s in the outlying areas. Tomorrow highs will be similar to today, ranging from the high 60s to the middle 30s. Conditions will be mostly clear for the southeastern half of the state with more clouds and snow in the northwestern regions of the state. I’ll be posting snowfall accumulation predictions online through social media so be sure to check those out.
