Here It Comes... The First Snow
CHEYENNE, Wyo. (Wyoming News Now) -
Clouds have been moving in heavy this morning. Much of the cloud coverage is pushing in from the southwestern corner. Along with all of the clouds, rain and snow are also a part of this system. Snow has already begun falling in the northwestern corner today.
This system is going to move through the state at a fairly slow pace. This morning, much of the precipitation is sticking to the northwestern corner. AS the system progresses, much of the northern half of the state will see the snow chances increase overnight. The southeastern corner will increase cloud coverage overnight and into tomorrow. By tomorrow afternoon and early evening, this system will pause over the North and Central portion of Wyoming. By tomorrow evening, much of the eastern half of the state will see some chance of snow fall heading into the overnight hours.
Again for this afternoon, a lot of the frozen precipitation is staying in the northwestern corner. As the system pushes slowly to the East, it will stall near Sheridan, Buffalo, and Casper. As it stays in this location, snow will consistently fall. The system will find momentum again and will continue the track to the East. this final push will allow the eastern border of Wyoming and the southeastern corner to experience a dusting of Wyoming’s first Winter Storm. By the end of this frontal system moving through, snow totals could range from an inch to over 16 inches of snow.
Across the state, there are plenty of winter related watches, warnings, and advisories. The Winter Storm Watches (teal) and Warnings (pink) take up most of the area shown. The other is a Winter weather Advisory (lavender). Certain areas of these watches, warnings, and advisories are all in effect until different times of the week. The latest time is Wednesday at 12:00PM.
High temperatures today are ranging from the 30s to the 60s. The 30 degree temperatures are in the northwestern corner, while the 60 degree temperatures are in the southeastern corner. Low temperatures tonight will drop and will range from the 20s to the lower 40s throughout the state. High temperatures for tomorrow are not going to heat up that much. Majority of the state will have high temperatures in the 30s and 40s. The southeastern corner will remain as one of the warmest spots in the upper 50s.
