Visit Caper launching Film Casper
CASPER, Wyo. (Wyoming News Now) - For many years, Wyoming has not had a film incentive at the state level. In the legislature, there is currently a bill that would allow the Wyoming Office of Tourism the opportunity to work with film producers to offer those incentives. Visit Casper is working with the Office of Tourism to prepare for faster permitting and accommodating hotels and recreational activities.
“Our office will typically provide those services, but one of the things that we really do want to get into is how do we simplify permitting, how do we work with the city or the county or some of our surrounding municipalities to come to fruition,” said Brook Kaufman, CEO of Visit Casper.
Kaufman says bringing film crews to Casper and the surrounding area is a non-traditional way of tourism that benefits the industry and the community as a whole.
“Not only does it allow us to promote our city if we show up in a project but it also helps create jobs and tax revenues and all the things that keep our community very vibrant,” said Kaufman.
Visit Casper has launched a website to allow producers looking to soot in this area to connect with crews, find locations, and see if their ideas would work with this market. Most inquiries for filming in Central Wyoming are due to the landscape the state has to offer.
“Film is a very competitive business so we’ve got to really up our game. Thank goodness that’s what the state of Wyoming is able to start doing with some of that film incentive money and at a local level, how do we service them better,” said Kaufman.
Visit Casper is working to get residents involved by giving them the chance to list their home or property as a filming area and sign up to be crew members.
