Changes for the Weekend
5 October 2021
CHEYENNE, Wyo. (Wyoming News Now) - Temperatures around the state are the warmest we have seen for this time of year. Some places are getting close to record heat. The good news is that there are nice and clear skies with very little haze. There are some small areas that could have some moderate smoke like west of Sheridan, but other than that, I do not see any issues with the smoke affecting the state over the next day. If you are not a fan of how unseasonably warm it has been lately, it’ll begin cooling off slowly for the next few days.
Surface models are showing a cold front out to the west connected to a stationary front sitting over in Canada. The front will be slowly moving towards the state brining in lots of clouds and an increased chance of precipitation. The clouds and the rain will help to drop down temperatures before the front actually reaches Wyoming. Once it hits the northern regions of the state by Thursday and Friday, it’ll stall out leaving us with lots of cloud cover and rain out to the western regions. Only when a much stronger cold front comes through later next week, will we have the chance for the first snowfall. The models are still far out enough that accuracy is an issue and I will have more information about the following system when time gets closer.
For now, tonight will be similar to last night with above average temperatures in the 30s, 40s and 50s. Clouds will begin rolling in overnight too, mostly in the western and northern regions of the state. Temperatures tomorrow will still remain on the warm side, but a little bit cooler than what we saw around Wyoming today. Conditions will also start changing too with an increase in cloud cover and some gusty winds as the frontal systems start to make their way in. If you like these warm temperatures, enjoy them because they will only be around for another day or so.
