LCCC Rodeo’s Caydee Johnson wins All-Around title at Sheridan College Rodeo
CHEYENNE, Wyo. (Wyoming News Now) - LCCC Rodeo’s Caydee Johnson is in her final year of collegiate eligibility.
The senior had a rough go of things lately, but that turned around in a big way when she won the All-Around at the Sheridan College Rodeo
“Rodeo is the luck of it and I hadn’t really been drawing the right cattle or the goats or anything like that,” said Johnson. “So I just got to keep grinding and keep my own lane and don’t look at other people’s successes and just focus on me and don’t get too beat up.”
In order to take the All-Around crown at Sheridan, Caydee managed to get into the short go in Goat Tying and Breakaway Roping.
She scored a 15 points (7.4 long go, 7.6 short go) in goat tying and secured a bell collar catch in 5.3 total seconds (2.8 long go, 2.5 short go) in breakaway roping. That score and time was good enough for first place in each event and Caydee earned 315 all-around points, which was the most overall to win the All-Around.
The Manhattan, Mont. native said she is thankful for her parents, who are both former rodeo athletes, for helping her get to where she is today.
“I seriously just loved horses and rodeo and the competition and all that,” said Johnson. “So, I pushed myself a lot but my parents helped me keep horses going and help me get down the road and did everything they could do to teach me.”
Caydee and the rest of the Golden Eagles Rodeo team are next in action this weekend (Oct 1-3). LCCC will be at the Central Wyoming Rodeo in Riverton.
