Casper-Natrona County Health Department preparing to administer additional doses for eligible individuals
CASPER, Wyo. (Wyoming News Now) - With the federal guidelines surrounding the third dose of the Pfizer vaccine, Casper-Natrona County Health Department is preparing to administer those shots.
“We have a lot of vaccines in the US and across the world that we issue in what we call a series. So you’ll get a shot, you’ll get a second shot, and then you’ll get a third shot maybe, or a fourth shot, and sometimes even a fifth. That’s just part of completing the series and really making sure you get a full and robust immune response,” said Hailey Bloom, the CNCHD Public Information Officer.
The third dose has only been approved for the Pfizer vaccine at this time. The Wyoming Department of Health created two categories based upon federal guidelines: should and may. The should category includes those 65 and older, people in long-term care facilities, and people over the age of 50 with underlying health conditions. The may category includes those over the age of 19 with underlying health conditions and people who work in high exposure settings.
Currently, CNCHD is not offering third doses to walk-ins.
The health department will be holding a drive thru clinic Thursday at the Ford Wyoming Center to administer third doses.
“We know that people are eager to get that third dose, so we just felt like doing some type of vaccine clinic in a drive-thru format would enable us to reach the most people in a short period of time and make it easy on those folks who need those vaccines,” said Bloom.
Flu shots will be offered at the drive thru clinic.
