Reflecting on Cheyenne East’s win vs Sheridan
CHEYENNE, Wyo. (Wyoming News Now) - In what was a major matchup Friday, Cheyenne East managed to hold off the Sheridan Broncos in a close 24-21 game.
Win’s like that never come easy, as the score will tell you. But with so little separation, it comes down to finding the right mentality.
East Head Coach Chad Goff said, “we just talked about the mindset of going into a game like this. Like we tell these kids, ‘you’re not playing the Sheridan legacy, you’re playing Sheridan High School this year’ so we make sure we understand that and it’s just a bunch of 16, 17, 18-year-olds, put their pants on the same way you guys do.”
Sheridan was undefeated entering the game, but both teams left at 4-1.
Early on, Cheyenne East was down 14-3 and needed to shift the momentum. While a few key plays certainly helped with that, establishing on-field communication can’t be overlooked.
“I think what helped us after the first quarter was coming together, playing as a team, keeping our energy up, and making our lows less low. Just staying level,” said Tucker Smith, a Defensive End for the T-Birds.
The next time you’ll be able to see East in action is on November 1st, when they’ll play the South Bison.
