Natrona County School District determined to keep kids safe
CASPER, Wyo. (Wyoming News Now) - Natrona County School District is committed to ensuring parents and guardians receive timely communication, especially during events that might occur during normal school hours.
“Throughout the year, we might have situations where there is something occurring within the neighborhood or the area of a school where the school goes into a proactive precautionary safety measure to ensure the safety of staff and students,” said Tanya Southerland, Director of Public Relations for NCSD.
The school district’s first priority is the safety of students and staff. If law enforcement is handling a situation close to the school, that building would perform a lock out. A lock out means that no visitors are allowed in or out of the school building until the situation is handled. Operations resume as normal, but they have this guideline in place to guarantee safety in a proactive way. NCSD has a very good relationship with local law enforcement, ensuring they are always in the know and the students are in a healthy environment.
“We really are taking care of everybody’s children within the schools and often time they know those kiddos, they’re there to protect and serve and take care of them. We have these targeted partnerships and community relationships all year long and it’s really effective and really appreciated when we do need those services,” said Southerland.
NCSD wants to remind parents the best way to receive updates is through the Campus Parent Portal and their social media.
