Prep Team of the Week: Cheyenne East Girls Tennis Team
CHEYENNE, Wyo. (Wyoming News Now) - This week, our Prep Athlete of the Week couldn’t be narrowed down to just one player. The entirety of the Cheyenne East girls tennis team gets the nod after a history-making regionals.
“I think that after last season scoring 14 points and seeing all the kids up there with medals, the girls saw themselves as wanting to do that this year. So, super exciting, they put in the work, and they got it. It’s awesome,” said coach Nicole Cameron.
For the first time in east history the girls tennis team won regionals.
After a 14 point performance from the year before, they spent the off-season working toward being the best.
Although there are five seniors on the team, many only began to play as recently as last year. This presented some interesting challenges to overcome, even beyond their hunt for gold.
Nedra McIlwaine, a senior on the team, said, “A lot of our seniors actually only joined last year, so it was also about the seniors that have played all the year coming together and also being leaders to people in the same grade.”
Even with newer players, they managed to find the chemistry and work ethic it takes to be a champion.
Congratulations to the East High School Girls Tennis Team, our Prep Team of the Week.
