CASPER, Wyo. (Wyoming News Now) -Petitions to get decriminalized marijuana and legal medial marijuana on the 2022 ballot have been out for about a week. Signature gatherers are optimistic they will get enough in a year and a half.

“At the rate we are going we don’t see a problem collecting the amount we need to get it on the ballot,” said Shawn Johnson, Chairman of cannabis action committees. Over 1,000 signatures have been gathered in the Casper area. Signing this petition is to get these initiatives on the 2022 ballot. “This isn’t a once we get the signatures it’s legal. It’s just to get it on the ballot so people can vote on it,” Johnson said.

The goal for getting these initiatives on the ballot is to help people struggling with physical pain or to have another option. “The main driving factor is to have this other avenue so people can get help especially in the realm of pain management so they’re not hooked on opiates. Cannabis can provide pain management in a non-addictive manor,” Johnson said.

Johnson adds another possible benefit for these initiatives getting on the ballot is the possibility of a more diverse economy.
