CHEYENNE, Wyo. (Wyoming News Now) - Hope everyone was able to stay cool and hydrated today because it was even hotter than yesterday. More records being broken across the board, even as early as the lunch hour. With the smoke starting to back away, we had much less air quality warnings in effect, but the fire weather is still an issue due the winds picking up and the dry conditions. The smoke itself will be clearing out and going toward the far north and far eastern regions of the state. Air quality warnings are expected to stay in effect for the northernmost cities of Wyoming for tomorrow.

If the heat was too much for this time of year, conditions are changing up. This weekend, we have a cold front moving in from the north helping to bring more seasonable temperatures. On top of that, it will also be brining in more cloud cover and the chances for some precipitation and storms. We can already start to see the moisture coming in from the west. The stronger winds today and tomorrow will help bring it over towards the east so do expect some stronger wind gusts over the weekend. This will also mean that the storms will be fast moving and very short lived.

Unfortunate given the state’s drought situation, we could really use a good soaking. Overnight, as the front makes it’s way through, clouds will begin building resulting in well above average lows with high 50s and a lot more 60s than we typically see this time of year. Tomorrow, temperatures will still be on the warmer side as it’ll take a little bit for the front to move through. The clouds and showers are expected to help out, but highs will remain in the 80s for most regions. Another front is likely going to take over early next week bringing temperatures down to more seasonable levels with highs in the 70s and lows in the 40s.
