CHEYENNE, Wyo. (Wyoming News Now) - With mostly clear skies all week, aside from the smoke and haze, the heat decided to take advantage and move back in. Today, lots of 90s all around Wyoming with a number of records being tied or broken. With these record temperatures and very dry conditions, we have a number of fire weather watches and warnings on our map. Air quality seems to be improving slightly as there are significantly less air quality warnings now compared to yesterday.

Good news is the smoke looks to moving further north and east outside of the state, leaving us with much better and more breathable air. On our surface map right now, the high pressure systems are still dominating the area leaving mostly clear skies. Keep in mind, these highs are also helping to move the smoke out of the state at this point. There is a warm front out to our east causing these very hot conditions on the eastern side, as well as out into South Dakota and the Nebraska panhandle.

Tomorrow, we will start to see some clouds rolling in from the west, but it will not be enough to cool us down. The western side of the state does have the slight chance to see some scattered showers but nothing more. As these clouds and showers start coming in, the wind begins to pick up too. It will be enough to bring our “feels like” temperatures down, but not our actual temperatures. This stronger westerly wind will increase our rain chances going into the weekend. More good news is that the rain will help cool us down to more seasonable levels with temperatures in the lower 80s. Tonight, as those clouds begin moving in, temperatures are expected to be above average with lows more so around the 50s than the 40s we typically see. Tomorrow, expect temperatures even hotter than today with mid to upper 90s and even some triple digits possible. Just look forward to the weekend in the meantime.
