CHEYENNE, Wyo. (Wyoming News Now) - Our weather is going be all over the place this week as we start to head into the fall season. We started the weekend on the cooler side, then warming up a bit going into the early parts of this week. Now we will be well above average by the end of the week before we start to see some storms and cool down for the weekend. Today was just fine in terms of temperatures. A little bit above average, but we have been above average for most of the season. Unfortunately, when the heat goes up, so does our smoke and fire weather.

Much of the state right now is under and air quality alert, or a red flag warning if not both. It looks to be clearing out to the northeast later into the week while the rest of the state will be stuck with thick smoke and haze for a bit. Our region right now is dominated by high pressure systems with a stationary front in the middle. Typically, we are used to seeing stationary fronts bring lots of precipitation; however, this one has high pressures surrounding it, not low pressures.

I don’t see much, if any, precipitation until this weekend. Some clouds look to be rolling in tomorrow which will help bring in some nice shade as we begin warming up again. Our winds look to be calm for the overnight hours and into tomorrow as well. This is not good considering we need some strong winds and some heavy rain if we want to have a chance of clearing out this smoke. The good news is that the overnight temperatures will be right where they are supposed to be for this time of year. Mostly 50s and 40s throughout the state with some 30s out to the far west in the higher elevations. Tomorrow, temperatures will begin warming up again to slightly above average. Mostly 80s throughout the state with a few 90s and, of course, cooler temperatures out to the west. Expect the 90s to become more common going into the later parts of the week until the cool down this weekend.
