CFD Hall of Fame inductees reflect on their experience ahead of ceremony
CHEYENNE, Wyo. (Wyoming News Now) - Cheyenne Frontier Days has become a spectacle like no other. People from all over the country come to the Capital City to partake in all that the event has to offer. In order for it to become the largest outdoor rodeo and western celebration in the world, it took a lot of work. It had to expand, and it had to evolve. Now, CFD has the chance to honor some of those vital figures that helped make that growth possible.
“This came about for me because when we started out in 1991, we had no buildings in the Indian Village,” said inductee Del Peterson, “somebody gave us the money to build the buildings, and 15 guys, the guys on my Committee, made this work. "
The nine inductees in this years class are Scott Binning, Monte Blue, Del Peterson, Kristie Peterson, French Flash “Bozo” Hawk, The Schrader Family, and Tom Watson. These are the people who spent a week of their life every year for decades not only elevating CFD, but making memories every step of the way.
“I’ve got so many god memories, but think the best one I ever had is.... my wife and I got to ride in the parade on our 50th wedding anniversary. That was pretty good,” said inductee Tom Watson.
Without the inductees that fill the Hall of Fame, CFD may not be where it’s currently at. But by being a part of the events history, they’ll now see their names recognized next to the other key members of Frontier Days.
Inductee Scott Binning said, “it’s a real gratifying experience to look at that list of the people that have been inducted into the Hall of Fame, and know that now you’re a part of that. Yea, it’s pretty special.”
Their ceremony will take place on September 24th at the Red Lion Hotel.
