Lots of Sunshine and Warm Temperatures Ahead
CHEYENNE, Wyo. (Wyoming News Now) -
Happy Labor Day! And what a great day it is to celebrate. The weather is beautiful today with lots of sun and very little cloud coverage.
Since the skies are so clear and not filled with clouds or rain, this is the perfect opportunity for the smoke to make a return. Today, most of the heavy smoke is sticking to the northern border. As we continue through the week and head into tomorrow, the heaviest smoke will begin to push towards the south. By Tuesday afternoon, the heaviest will be located in the southwestern corner. By Wednesday, the heaviest smoke will lie along the southern border.
The Storm Prediction Center has placed Elevated and Critical Fire Risks within the Cowboy State today as well. With the warmer temperatures, drier conditions, and gusty winds, this is a perfect recipe for an outbreak if there were something to create a spark. With it being the extended holiday weekend, if grilling or camping out, be mindful of any fires and put them out correctly.
With the smoke and fire hazards making a return, there are plenty of warnings to discuss today. Fire Weather Warnings take up a majority of the state. Areas under the Fire Weather Warning are in effect until 8PM tonight, with an extension being expected. There are also plenty of areas throughout the state under Air Quality Warnings. This morning, the northwest corner had pockets of the Air Quality Warnings in effect until 1PM today. Those areas have now been expanded in size and are now in effect until 1PM Tuesday (tomorrow). There is also an Air Quality Warning pocket in the southeast. This area is in effect until 10:15AM Tuesday morning (tomorrow morning).
This week is off to a warm start. Temperatures are in the 80s and 90s. Most of the90 degree temperatures are in the northeastern corner and along the eastern border. Tonight, temperatures will cool off a bit into the 40s and 50s. There will be a slight break in the temperatures tomorrow, as the places with 90 degree high temperatures today will cool into the 80s tomorrow. Statewide, high temperatures tomorrow will be in the 80s. This week is going to be a warm one, as 90 degree temperatures make a return by the end of the week.
