CHEYENNE, Wyo. (Wyoming News Now) - That cold front is still struggling to make it through the whole state, but it was able to bring some cooler temperatures today for everyone. Highs all around were in the 70s for most areas and 60s in the northern regions and higher elevations. Smoke is still an issue unfortunately. Air quality warnings are extending from the southwest all the way up toward Casper.

Our smoke forecast shows that the smoke will be shifting to the north after the front comes all the way through. This will lead to more clear conditions for the southern cities, but more air quality alerts for the northern cities. The cold front right now is sitting over the southern edge of the state resulting in lots of shower and storm activity. There is the potential for some severe storms and we have seen a few already. Storm Prediction Center has the chance for hail, strong winds, and even an isolated tornado. The biggest threat that I see from these storms is the strong wind. Gusts over 50 MPH with these storms are possible, so be weather aware.

Luckily, these storms will move out by the later parts of the evening and into the early overnight hours. Clouds will begin to break up resulting in some even cooler temperatures tonight than what we have seen over the past few nights with overcast skies. Expect mostly 40s around the whole state with some lower 50s in the southeast, some 30s out to the west, and even some 20s in the northwest. It is that time of the year where the cooler temperatures start coming in. Temperatures tomorrow and for the rest of the weekend will be excellent. Highs in the lows 80s and upper 70s for much of the state and mostly clear skies. Next week, we will be warming back up, but keeping those nice conditions to start off the next work week.
