Casper Mural Project celebrates new downtown mural
CASPER, Wyo. (Wyoming News Now) - The Casper Mural Project is working hard to find creative ways to engage in public art. The organization put out a national call for a mural artist, and that’s when they met Whitney Herrington.
Herrington’s sketches and portfolio communicated vibrancy, brightness, and well-being, qualities admired by the selection committee.
“I really think about lots of parts and pieces and how to represent those things not in a stereotypical way. So yeah I just really wanted to represent Casper in a new and exciting way,” said Whitney Herrington, the mural artist.
The organization found this mural fitting for the science zone due to a tag-line Herrington came up with embodying the beauty of Casper.
“I think this mural with it’s tag line of “Where Wander Meets Wonder” inspires a sense of curiosity. It inspires a sense of pride in the town that we live in and love to be in and with that tag line, it’s just connected of course to this mission of The Science Zone,” Libby Tedder Hugus, the Operation Facilitator for The Table.
Herrington says completing this mural for Casper was like leaving a piece of her heart in the west. She hopes this labor of love and ideas reflect the level of respect she feels for this city, and that those who live here will show that same passion for public art.
“I hope that with the projects with they have done before with this one that it just pushes people to want to do this more and create more public opportunities,” said Herrington.
The Casper Mural Project invites everyone in the community to come celebrate this new addition to the city on Thursday evening during the final Casper Art Walk of the summer.
