Hot and Smoky, then Cool and Rainy
By: Jordan Frazier
CHEYENNE, Wyo. (Wyoming News Now) - Hot temperatures are back in the cowboy state for a little bit with lots of 90s all around. Unfortunately, the smoke is back too and it is really thick. Our warning map has the entire state under an air quality warning and the southern regions under fire weather watches and warnings. These dry and hot conditions look to be sticking around for a few days so I expect these to stay in effect for a little bit. The smoke looks to be coming in from the west based off our forecasts and it is really heavy too.
Please try to limit time outside especially if you have pre-existing health conditions that can be worsened by the smoke. Rain coming in to help relieve us from the smoke doesn’t seem to be anywhere. Although, our surface map does look promising for later in the week. There is a cold front out to the west in Idaho right now that will be moving into Wyoming by around Wednesday and into Thursday.
During that time, we will notice the winds beginning to pick up from the west and start to see an increase in our rain chances. By the end of the week, cool temperatures will be all around the state with highs at most hitting the lower 80s with most other cities in the 70s. For now, we will be stuck with unseasonably warm and above average temperatures. Tonight, still a lot of smoke will be sticking around the state. Lows will be a mix on 40s and 50s depending on the city’s elevation. Tomorrow, lots of upper 90s, especially on the eastern half of Wyoming. At the turn of the month, we can finally start to see more fall like conditions.
