Irina Creek shares personal connection to Operation Christmas Child
CASPER, Wyo. (Wyoming News Now) - Irina Creek’s journey with Operation Christmas Child started well before she even knew the name of the program. When Creek was ten years old, she was living in an orphanage in a country that was a part of the Soviet Union. She received one of these boxes, which changed her life, and found her way back to being a part of it.
“When I was talking to a friend of mine on the phone one day and she said she was buying all this school supplies from Amazon, and I said ‘you’re not in school why do you need all this stuff for’ and she told me about Operation Christmas Child, and I suddenly realized that I already knew about the project,” said Creek.
Creek now serves as a speaker for Operation Christmas Child, traveling the country and encouraging others to help those who need it most. Operation Christmas Child works year-round to provide children in need with a shoe box gift. Last year, the surrounding area filled over 5,000 shoe boxes, with the city of Casper collecting over 2,600 of those. Creek says packing the gifts is just as rewarding as receiving one.
“When I received my shoe box gift, I realized that there was somebody far away, that has never met me before and they showed love to me. And so you have the opportunity to be able to share that love with someone around the work who desperately needs it,” said Creek.
This year’s national collection week is November 15th-22nd. Drop off locations will be announced soon.
