New State Building to feature designs by Stateline Architects

CASPER, Wyo. (Wyoming News Now) - In 2018, Stateline Architects started working on a design for the new state building. Construction started a year and a half later in 2019, and although many projects were pushed back due to the pandemic, the team stayed hard at work.

“Really the pandemic hasn’t really effected much in the way of the overall project because we had a lot of it underway before that even hit. Luckily we have had a little hiccups and here and there and materials now are kind of hit and miss, but for the most part things have been going pretty well,” said Anthony Jacobsen, the project manager.

Because so many people were working on the project, Stateline’s most difficult challenge was coming up with a building design.

“We realized we weren’t gong to make everybody happy. We tried to give everybody a little bit of what they wanted so the exterior kind of, it has three different concepts behind it,” said Lyle Murtha, the owner of Stateline Architects.

The building combines modern, governmental, and the Old Yellowstone District all in one. The building’s foundation is on the side of a former rail yard, so Stateline incorporated that history in the interior design. Since 11 agencies will be housed in this building, they want it to be comfortable for those employees.

“We’ve tried to design it too so that all the employees have daylight from the exterior. We tried to located the offices around the perimeter, put the storage and the meeting rooms in the center that don’t need necessarily daylight,” said Jacobsen.

The building is designed to be accessible for residents will all modes of transportation.

“It’s specifically built right along the bike path and we extended the bike path through the sides and around the building so you can ride your bike to work or if you’re a visitor you can walk...ride the bus,” said Murtha.

Stateline has worked with the city’s MPO to make sure a bus stop is installed right outside the building. The project is expected to be completed later this year.
