Hot with Showers

CHEYENNE, Wyo. (Wyoming News Now) - It was one of the hottest days of the week in Wyoming with temperatures being well above average and numerous cities hitting or getting close to hitting the triple digit mark. On top of that, the dry conditions have increased our risk for fire weather as we have much of the state under a red flag warning. The smoke is starting to get better but there are still air quality warnings for the northwestern corner of the state near the forests and national parks.
At least the increase in rain chances across the state as well as that cold front will help to move out the majority of the smoke over the next few days. We can already start to see those showers making their way through from the southwestern region of the state. Today, it’ll just help keep those temperatures from getting too hot as much of these rain showers are mostly isolated and not bringing much in terms of accumulation. This is just the beginning as the cold front and the troughs in front of it are fueling the storms that we are seeing today.
Tomorrow, we can see these storms being more widespread with strong winds and small hail being a threat, mostly toward the southwestern portions of the state according to the Storm Prediction Center. Tonight, we can expect to see the clouds starting to roll in causing temperatures to be much warmer this weekend with mid to low 60s around the state. Tomorrow, that’s when we can a definitive line in the high temperature map. The areas not affected by the front yet will be in the 80s and 90s while the places affected by the front can see highs as low as the 50s, especially to the northwest. After the front passes, highs will be in the low 70s and upper 60s across the big cities and lows will drop down into the upper 40s as well.
