CHEYENNE, Wyo. (Wyoming News Now) - Following a truly exceptional regular season and Wyoming State Tournament, Cheyenne Post 6 Shortstop/Pitcher Colter McAnelly has been named the ‘AA’ Player of the Year.

At the plate, Colter is slashing .377/.503/.594 (Batting Average/On-Base Percentage/Slugging Percentage) in 2021. He also has hit 4 home runs, driven in 64 RBI, and scored 96 runs over 81 games played.

Colter is also a dominant pitcher for the Sixers. The sophomore pitched in 22 games, starting in 10 of them, and posted a (7-1) record with a 1.36 ERA.

In addition to being named ‘AA’ Player of the Year, Colter was named First Team All-State and the MVP of the Wyoming ‘AA’ State Tournament. He is also a verbal commit to play baseball at the University of Missouri after high school.

“To be awarded [’AA’ Player of the Year] is really cool and it’s exciting,” said Colter. “When I saw it, my heart dropped and I was really happy.”

With McAnelly leading the way, Cheyenne has been nearly unstoppable this season. Post 6 has won 68 games, which is a new program record, and the team won the 2021 Wyoming ‘AA’ State Championship.

But now, the Sixers turn their attention to the American Legion Northwest Regional Tournament, which takes place in Gillette from August 4-August 8. Cheyenne is more than likely going to face adversity in this tournament, playing against some great teams from other states, but it sounds like the Sixers should be able to stick together through thick and thin because of the chemistry that has been built.

“All our guys have gotten so much closer and every win brings us closer, every loss brings us a closer and it just feels like we don’t lose very much and it’s really fun,” said Colter.

Cheyenne’s first regional game is against a team from Eugene, Ore. on Wednesday, August 4 at Hladky Memorial Stadium. First Pitch is scheduled for 4:30 p.m.
