CHEYENNE, Wyo. (Wyoming News Now) - Taliah Morris was just a freshman at Cheyenne East during the 2020-2021 school year. Despite this, she has already seen a tremendous amount of success and has won multiple individual state titles. She is also now a 2020-2021 Wyoming News Now Prep Athlete of the Year.

In her Prep Athlete of the Year interview, the springer, jumper, and volleyball player got a huge compliment from her coach by being mentioned in the same breath as East High School greats Tevis Bartlett, Brandon Nimmo, and James Johnson. This comparison was because of how naturally the sport of track and field comes to her.

“Things that are tougher to other kids are really simple to them a lot of times in the physical aspect and so…the one thing that we worked with, and continue to work on with Taliah this year, is just, being that she is so young, is being able to handle all the pressure that comes at her,” said East Girls Track Head Coach Travis Eldridge.

Taliah won three state championships this past school year. They were in the Indoor 55-Meter Dash, Outdoor 200-Meter Dash, and Outdoor Long Jump. Taliah was also Wyoming News Now’s Prep Athlete of the Week on April 26, 2021.

But, at the end of the day, Taliah is concerned about more than how fast she can run or how far she can jump.

“Everyone around me [motivates] me and they just make me want to be a good person because I see how they treat people and I just know that I want to be looked at like as a good person and not only as a good athlete,” said Taliah Morris.

Congratulations to Taliah Morris, 2020-2021 Wyoming News Now Prep Athlete of the Year.
