CHEYENNE, Wyo. (Wyoming News Now) - Today was one of the first days in a while that we did not see oppressive heat or record breaking temperatures. However, the smoky conditions have still remained, today moving out to the eastern side of the state as the west was mostly rained out. Going into this weekend, despite the increase in rain chances, we can see a lot of the heavy smoke to the north move toward the southern and eastern regions of the state including the capital city and the Nebraska panhandle.

Our new drought monitor was released today, and to no surprise, conditions worsened after a very hot and dry week. Hopefully, we can see these conditions improving with the increase in rain chances this weekend and next week along side the more seasonable temperatures.

Today, we saw lots of rain throughout much of the western and central regions of the state. Only a few storms turned severe dropping some hail over an inch in diameter, but some storms to the south did cause some localized flooding. Tomorrow, in terms of rain, chances are much higher as many people can see these showers and storms moving through with lots of strong winds and heavy rain.

Tonight, temperatures will be slightly above average as the clouds and storms will stick around, mostly toward the northern areas of the state. Tomorrow, we can see temperatures very similar to today, much more seasonable. Once those showers make their way through, we can see those temperatures drop off. Going into this weekend, much less chance of thunderstorms but a bigger chance of just seeing rain showers. Given the current smoke and drought conditions, this will be welcomed. With that, temperatures next week will much more moderate and seasonable.
