Casper Horseheads Expedition League All-Star: Eric Erato

Eric Erato got playing time on the baseball field as a freshman at Northern Illinois University, which is rare, and he’s taken the tools he has to shine in Casper so far.

CASPER, Wyo. (Wyoming News Now) - The Casper Horseheads are this year’s host for the Expedition League All-Star Game. The exhibition will feature the best and brightest from the first half of this summer’s Expedition League teams.

The Horseheads have four representatives playing in the game, and the lone pitcher is Jake Wright, who we profiled Friday.

Eric Erato is another one of this summer’s standouts, and he will be playing in the All-Star Game, too.

He’s originally from Sussex, WI, and plays at Northern Illinois University during the school year.

The lefty-hitting Erato typically mans the right side of the infield at second base for the Horseheads, but he also moonlights in left field from time to time.

“He doesn’t get down on himself,” said Horseheads Head Coach Kyle Pearson when asked to describe Erato’s demeanor on the field. “He’s just like, ‘I’m competitive enough. I’m good enough, and I’m gonna outwork this pitcher this at-bat, or in the field, whatever it is.’ He just gets after it.”

Erato is hitting .282 with a .406 on-base percentage through 30 games in Casper. He’s also collected 6 doubles, a triple and 10 RBIs at the plate.

He’s also a menace on the basepaths with 8 stolen bases.

When it comes to his All-Star nod, Erato said it is a testament to all of the hard work that he has put in over the years. “Obviously, there’s a lot of great players in this league,” said Erato. “And it’s just a super big accomplishment to be named as one of the All-Stars for all the teams that are in this league.”

Pearson was not shocked to see Erato’s name among the All-Stars.

“His first 10-15 games, I’m like, ‘This guy is hundred percent talent-wise an All-Star,’” said Pearson. “I was just glad that other coaches and everybody that voted didn’t look at like, ‘Oh, he missed the first 15 games because he was still at school.’ and everything. They see the talent just I mean automatic All-Star lock for sure. The talent is just otherworldly with him.”

The Expedition All-Star Game will be held at Mike Lansing Field on Tuesday, July 20 at 7:05 PM.
