CASPER, Wyo. (Wyoming News Now) - Thursday was a special evening for the Casper Oilers at Mike Lansing Field. The team hosted Alliance (NE) for a doubleheader, but it also honored their seniors and the contributions they’ve made to the program.

The Oilers split the doubleheader with a 6-2 victory in the first game and an 11-0 damper on the evening in game two.

In between games, each of the team’s 12 seniors was honored individually. The seniors were given commemorative bats and accompanied by their parents as they heard their names and favorite memories called over the loudspeakers.

Some parents also set up displays with some of their kids’ memories of playing baseball in the Oil City. The displays included photos, old uniforms and other cherished baseball items.

“It’s kind of a heartfelt moment to have everyone together and be with our parents one last time on the field,” said Braden Barr, one of the Oilers’ senior infielders and pitchers.

A couple of Oilers called the evening “surreal.”

“I’ve seen a bunch of seniors pass through and stuff, and my freshman year I was like, ‘There’s no way I’m going to get there that fast.’ And it came really, really fast,” said Kyler Henderson, a senior utilityman for the club.

Morgan Pickett, who had been looking forward to Senior Night, said, “My parents have been to games since we were little and always supported. I’ve been to my brothers’ games and seen them go through, so it’s always pretty surreal watching moms get emotional, and dads just stand there and smile. But it hits a little different.”

The Oilers’ season is not over. This weekend, they’ll head down to Fort Collins to play in the Gabe Pando Tournament and host Evanston back at Mike Lansing Field next week before the state tournament starts on July 26.
