Deadly crashes on Wyoming roads over 4th of July weekend

CHEYENNE, Wyo. (Release) - On July 3, 2021, a fatal crash occurred around milepost 64 on US 14 west of Dayton, Wyoming.  At 4:03 p.m., Wyoming Highway Patrol troopers were notified of a motor vehicle collision.

A 2007 Ford Crown Vic was traveling west on US 14 in a heavy rainstorm with very poor tire tread.  The Ford driver lost control of the vehicle while negotiating a curve to the right and crossed into the eastbound lane colliding with a 2000 BMW K1200LT motorcycle and a 2016 Indian Scout Sixty ATV.

The driver of the BMW has been identified as 56-year-old Plattsburg, Missouri resident Brett E. Dickerson.  Dickerson was wearing a helmet and succumbed to his injuries at the scene of the crash.

The driver of the Indian has been identified as 57-year-old Plattsburg, Missouri resident Robin D. Dickerson.  R. Dickerson was wearing a helmet and succumbed to her injuries at the crash scene.

The driver of the Ford has been identified as 55-year-old Banner, Wyoming resident Scott A. Nicholson.  The passengers in the vehicle have been identified as 59-year-old Sandra L. Nicholson, 19-year-old Mary A. Nicholson, and 22-year-old William S. Nicholson.  All occupants were wearing a seatbelt and transported to the Sheridan Memorial Hospital for injuries sustained in the crash.

Equipment failure and speed on the part of Nicholson are being investigated as potential contributing factors.

On July 5, 2021, a fatal crash occurred around milepost 17 on Wyoming 433 south of Manderson, Wyoming.  At 3:31 p.m., Wyoming Highway Patrol troopers were notified of a motor vehicle collision.

A 2007 Cadillac Escalade was traveling south on Wyoming 433 behind a 2014 Nissan Titan.  The driver of the Cadillac failed to notice the driver of the Nissan slowing to attempt a turn.  The Cadillac collided with the Nissan, causing it to exit the roadway and overturn.

The driver of the Nissan has been identified as 80-year-old Manderson, Wyoming resident Thomas A. Jahrig.  Jahrig was not wearing a seatbelt and succumbed to his injuries at the crash scene.

The driver of the Cadillac has been identified as 33-year-old Greybull, Wyoming resident Micah E. Maas.  Maas was not wearing a seatbelt and was transported to the South Big Horn County Hospital for injuries sustained in the crash.  The juvenile passenger in the vehicle was in a child seat restraint and transported to the South Big Horn County Hospital for injuries sustained in the crash.

Driver inattention and speed on the part of Maas are being investigated as potential contributing factors.

This is the 46th, 47th, and 48th fatality on Wyoming’s roadways in 2021 compared to 47 in 2020, 84 in 2019, and 47 in 2018 to date.
