CHEYENNE, Wyo. (Wyoming News Now) - With summer giving us more time to explore our state, most Wyomingites enjoy what’s in our own backyards.

But Wyoming Game and Fish remind us that there are wildlife safety protocols in place for a reason.

“Seeing wildlife is really exciting, but it is really important to practice safe wildlife viewing not only because it’s the ethical way to view wildlife, but it is also the safest way to view wildlife for both wildlife and humans,” said Sara DiRienzo, Public Information Officer Wyoming Game and Fish.

When visiting State Parks and Sites, ensure your party abides by the guidelines of each park. Breaking of the rules can have a serious consequences for environmental and wildlife health, safety and could endanger humans.

DiRienzo said the important things to remember when viewing wildlife is do not attempt to approach, park only in a safe pull-off location and respect their natural habitat.

“The other important thing is do not feed or try to touch wildlife. Feeding wildlife can be really dangerous, it can habituate them to food and people and that can create an unsafe situation so the best thing that you can do for wildlife is watch from a distance, really enjoy the natural beauty of Wyoming and give wildlife space this summer,” said DiRienzo.
