Prep Athlete of the Week: Julian Romero
CASPER, Wyo. (Wyoming News Now) - Wyoming News Now Prep Athlete of the Week Julian Romero came through in the clutch on the diamond this week in Omaha.
His timely hitting and heart on the mound were crucial for Post Six Baseball at the College World Series Bluejay Classic.
Romero finished 4/13 at the plate including 4 RBIs and 3 runs scored, and he was able to draw 5 walks.
In a 5-2 win over Fargo Post Two to close out the weekend for the Sixers, Romero’s star shined brightest. He finished the game 2/3 with a 2-RBI double that helped give Post Six a late lead.
He also finished the game on the mound and got the save to send the Sixers headed home victorious.
In a Zoom interview on Monday, Post Six Head Coach Ty Lain said Romero is just a guy that believes he’s going to come through in those kinds of moments.
“He’s a guy that I think our whole team would say they would want at the dish in an important situation or want the ball hit to when we’re trying to get out of an inning,” said Lain.
When Romero was asked about what that team confidence means for him, he answered that “it feels really good.”
“I’ve been working really hard trying to grind and the AB’s I’ll fight,” said Romero. “I’ll try to fight as long as I can to find a good pitch to hit it as decent as I can to score some runs, and I mean I just try to play aggressive as possible and just try to make plays.”
Coach Lain called Romero “a huge asset” for the team.
Romero said his dream is to play college baseball, and it was only reinforced being at the College World Series in Omaha this weekend.
When he’s not playing baseball, Romero is an East High School Thunderbird and enjoys hanging out with his friends and trout fishing with them.
Congratulations to Julian Romero, Wyoming News Now Prep Athlete of the Week.
