Rain, Rain, Come Our Way!
Here is what you need to know heading into the weekend.
CHEYENNE, Wyo. (Wyoming News Now) -
Yesterday, clouds and high temperatures were the big story. Today, it is the rain and cooler temperatures as we head towards the weekend. Wyoming has been seeing extremely warm temperatures for several weeks now, and many people are begging for cooler temperatures. Well look no further! The rain is going to be making its grand entrance this afternoon. There will be scattered showers starting early afternoon, but by tonight we will be seeing isolated thunderstorms throughout the overnight hours and into tomorrow.
Most of the state is under a General risk of thunderstorms today, though the most eastern border is placed under a Marginal risk by the Storm Prediction Center. Strong gusty winds and hail are possible when under a Marginal thunderstorm risk. This system of rain is expected to stick around through the weekend. With these storms being scattered throughout the state, rain totals won’t be extremely high. By the time the rain stops, a few places will see rain totals greater than 0.5 inches. Laramie is forecasted to see over an inch of rain, which would be the largest rain total during this event.
Here are a few reminders to get you through the weekend. Make sure to keep your umbrellas, jackets, and rain boots handy as we head into the weekend, especially if you have plans to get out. Always be aware of road conditions when raining. If you see flooding, do not try driving through it. Take an alternate route to reach your destination. A few extra minutes of driving could keep you from floating your cars. Avoid standing outside when there is thunder. And even though you may not see lightning, thunder is the indicator lightning is present. In events such as these, remember to always keep yours eyes to the sky in order to keep you safe.
