Four LCCC head coaches earn “Coach of The Year” honors for Golden Eagles

CHEYENNE, Wyo. (LCCC RELEASE) - Four Laramie County Community College Golden Eagles head coaches were named Coach of the Year in their respective sports for the 2020-21 seasons.

Head Rodeo Coach Seth Glause was named Central Rocky Mountain Region Coach of the Year after seeing a pair of Golden Eagles’ rodeo athletes qualify for the College National Finals Rodeo. Glause guided both the men’s and women’s teams to fourth-place finishes in the Central Rocky Mountain Region. Hayden Madsen finished fifth in the women’s all-around while Stefan Tonita and Cauy Pokorny both qualified for the College National Finals Rodeo.

DeWayne Saulsberry was named Region IX North coach of the year after the Golden Eagles won the regular season Region IX North title. Saulsberry led the Golden Eagles to a 10-11 record and 8-2 in Region IX North play. The Golden Eagles won eight of their final 10 regular-season games, earning the number one seed and the right to host the Region IX tournament for the first time in program history. Under the guidance of Saulsberry, sophomore Erik Oliver was named NJCAA Honorable Mention All-American.

Nate Ulness was named Region IX Women’s Soccer Coach of the Year, leading the Golden Eagles to the program’s 12th national tournament appearance. The Golden Eagles finished the season 14-2 and won the Region IX title, beating Western Wyoming in the Region IX championship game. Ulness coached the Region IX Freshman of the Year, Sam Murray.

Vince Gibson was the Region IX Men’s Soccer Coach of the Year after guiding the Golden Eagles to their second consecutive trip to the NJCAA Men’s Soccer Championships. Gibson led the Golden Eagles to a 9-3-2 record and won the Region IX tournament for the third consecutive season. Gibson coached the Region IX Most Valuable Player, Omar Castruita.
